The Patient’s Medical Health Is Very Important In Our Dental Treatment

What we are doing in dentistry today is vastly different from the care patients received 30 years ago. Technology is always going to change. But the biggest changes aren’t necessarily about computing or 3D or nanorobots.

One of the most significant changes in dentistry is the attention we dentists pay to the medical health of our patients.

An assessment of our patients starts with taking vital statistics (blood pressure, pulse, blood oxygen concentration, temperature). We review medical conditions and medications being taken. Then we do an assessment of the head and neck before we enter the mouth for a dental examination. We routinely perform a muscle and joint examination of the head and neck as well as an assessment of the skin, eyes, hair, ears, nose, and throat.

And occasionally we intervene to make a huge difference in the health of our patients before we get to the dentistry. Like in this example: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/trip-to-dentist-saves-oklahoma-girls-life/?ftag=YHF4eb9d17

The medical health of our patients is a very influential part of how we diagnose, plan, and treat our dental patients. Come see us today for a very thorough examaination!
