Holistic & Biological Dentistry

At Lyons Creek Dental Care, we believe that dental health is closely connected to overall health. Our holistic and biological approach focuses on how dental materials, oral infections, bite function, and lifestyle factors influence the rest of the body.

What Is Holistic or Biological Dentistry?

Holistic dentistry is an integrative approach to oral health. It recognizes that the mouth is part of the entire body and that dental treatment can affect systemic health. Our goal is to restore proper oral function while using materials and techniques that support your overall well-being.

At Lyons Creek Dental Care, biological dentistry also means helping patients understand the root causes of dental problems, not just the symptoms. Addressing underlying issues can support long-term oral health and reduce the need for more extensive procedures.

The holistic dentistry approach considers:
  • The connection between oral health and overall wellness
  • Preventive care and minimally invasive treatment
  • The impact of dental materials on the body
  • The role of nutrition and lifestyle in dental health

I've been procrastinating getting back to a dentist for years, but finally got an appointment with Lyons Creek out of painful desperation. 5 stars isn't enough for Dr. Rafoth and his team. I especially appreciate that they practice biological dentistry, yet still work with insurance companies (and mine is particularly difficult). The whole team treated me like I was their only patient, I've never felt so pampered at a dentist's office. Stop procrastinating and just call them to schedule an appointment.

Explore Our Solutions

This option may include:

  • Metal-free crowns and bridges
  • Ceramic dental implants
  • BPA-free restorative materials
  • Biocompatible bonding materials

Biocompatible, Metal-Free Dentistry

Whenever possible, we use biologically compatible materials that are free from heavy metals and designed to work safely with the body.

Choosing the right materials can improve both the comfort and long-term success of dental restorations.

These techniques are designed to:

  • Protect patients and dental staff from mercury exposure
  • Reduce environmental contamination
  • Safely remove old amalgam restorations

Safe Mercury Filling Removal (SMART Protocol)

Older dental fillings often contained mercury amalgam. When these restorations need to be replaced, we follow SMART (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) protocols.

Our practice follows the safety guidelines recommended by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), an organization dedicated to researching the connection between dentistry and systemic health.

BPA-Free Fillings

At Lyons Creek Dental Care, we offer modern restorative materials designed with both safety and durability in mind.

We use Admira Fusion, a ceramic-based restorative material that is entirely BPA-free.

Biocompatibility

Admira Fusion contains no traditional monomers such as BisGMA, TEGDMA, or HEMA. This helps eliminate the risk of those substances being released into the body.

Durability

The ceramic-based formulation provides excellent strength and stability. It also offers significantly less shrinkage than many conventional composites, improving the longevity of restorations.

Natural Appearance

These fillings blend naturally with your tooth color, allowing restorations to look and feel like your own teeth.

Environmental Responsibility

BPA-free materials also support environmentally responsible dentistry by reducing exposure to certain chemicals in both patients and the environment.

A Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

Holistic dentistry also means considering our environmental impact. Lyons Creek Dental Care has achieved a 3-Star EnviroStar rating, reflecting our efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of our practice.

This includes improvements in equipment, procedures, and waste management designed to protect both patients and the environment.

Dentistry That Supports Your Whole Health

Biological dentistry is about more than simply repairing teeth. It’s about helping you maintain healthy oral function while supporting your overall wellness.

When these elements work together, patients can achieve healthier smiles and improved overall health. Here are our combined approach:
  • Modern dental technology
  • Biocompatible materials
  • Preventive care
  • Patient education
  • Personalized treatment planning
I've been a patient here for a while now and I genuinely look forward to my appointments — and that's not something most people say about the dentist! The entire team makes you feel welcome the moment you walk in. Dr. Chris in particular strikes the perfect balance between explaining what is going on and being personable and easy to talk to.
